Lyser.net
This is intended to be primarily by/for the Lyser family of California and our friends.
In addition to a family photo album in the first part of this index, I am also starting a second part for old family photos, documents, and genealogy records sent to me by several family members to be shared. This is very much a work-in-progress and I hope you find it interesting!
Recent:
Ranch Wildlife. Photo set assembled 2012, taken various times. Coyotes, Weasel, Tiger Salamander. A Blue Heron who flew over from the coast. Deer, Turkeys, Quail, Vulture, Gophers, Skunk, Rabbits. Even a friendly Peacock who moved in for a year.
California State Fair 2011. An annual tradition.
Ranch photos taken over several years, assembled by Liz in 2009 to illustrate her talks to the the third grade kids in the school where she volunteers.
Four Birthdays. The family got together January 14, 2006 to celebrate four birthdays: Emmy, Bien, Layla, and Emma Rose.
Evelyn's 95th Birthday. On June 4, 2005 family and friends gathered at Evelyn's home to celebrate her 95th birthday. (b. 6-3-1910).
India,
November 2004. Shelly was at University of Delhi for her
semester abroad, June through December 2004. In November we went to
visit her and to see some of India. We travelled on our own most of
three weeks but got a tourist guide for Jaipur and to visit the Taj
Mahal. Shelly did an excellent job explaining things when we were
with her in Delhi and when we went to Varanasi.
My
India pictures are in 20 sets. I can't imagine anyone viewing more
than one or two sets at a sitting, but I love every picture. India
is endlessly fascinating.
On each
page, the links to other India sets are at the bottom of the left
column below the thumbnails.
Chris's
60th birthday toy. Contemplating the three days it takes to mow
weeds at the ranch with a high-wheel string trimmer, I thought there
had to be a better way. I got a Yanmar Diesel tractor with loader
and added a mower, and a scraper box for driveway maintenance. This
Yanmar 240 looks and works like an old Ford 8N but at 3/4 the size.
It's indestructible and easy to tinker on.
Finally
I've completed several projects that were impossible to tackle with
shovel and wheelbarrow. No wonder Farmer Small always had a big
smile sitting on his tractor. This thing is the greatest toy I've
ever seen!
Three sisters December 20, 2003. Eleanor and Marge F. brought Emmy and came to visit Evelyn. Here is their Christmas dinner together, and a picture of Eleanor's wonderful cake. Watching the sisters work together in the kitchen I realized I was seeing a 90 year tradition.
Mann Family Reunion August 9, 2003. (Liz's mother Mary and siblings are in image 33 on the second page).
Shelly in Nicaragua, June 2003. Shelly's friend Jessica remained in Nicaragua after a semester there. In June, Shelly and Jessica's sister Anna went to join Jessica, touring Nicaragua and neighboring Costa Rica.
Dilworth Family Reunion, June 13-14, 2003. Mabel Roxie Dilworth Maxwell was Liz's grandmother, the mother of Liz's father Kenneth Maxwell. Kenneth's cousins who attended are shown in this picture which is on that page.
Laurie's Africa adventure! August through December 2002 Laurie attended University of Natal, Pietermaritzburg campus, in South Africa. During the semester she visited Mozambique, Swaziland, Lesotho, Kruger National Park, and several South African cities. Then for three weeks in December she and friends drove across the Kalahari desert of Botswana to the Atlantic coast of Namibia, north to the Angola border, and then east to Victoria Falls on the Zambia/Zimbabwe border.
CKM Eco Club - Loon Lake Trip, May 2002. Shelly was president of Eco Club for her senior year in high school. After they completed many projects during the year, the club finished the year with a trip to the USFS lodge at Loon Lake. This included a vist with a USFS naturalist, snow play, swimming in snowmelt (darn fools!), and much friendship amid beautiful scenery. A great end to the school year.
June 5, 2001. Our first visit to the Mining Claim in 2001. Text and photos.
Photos from the Lyser family reunion at the ranch on July 17, 1999.
History - Lyser:
Hilton
Letters. From Charles Hilton in California to his mother Rebecca
Hilton at her home in Carleton, Nova Scotia. The letters are dated
from 1850 to 1858.
(His daughter born in California, Alice
Hilton Lyser, was Charles Julius Lyser's mother.)
Charles Ralph Lyser's Autobiography describing his childhood at Techatticup Mine in 1913.
Photos from the Techatticup! Herbert's baby book includes several photos made by his father Carl, depicting the year they lived in the desert. (Click directly on the photos - I need to make an index.)
Here are some links into California genealogy databases listing Lyser ancestors. Mostly 1870 San Francisco data.
History - Robinson:
Evelyn Robinson Lyser's early childhood, as related by her in 1997.
Crossing the Plains. The Story of John and Evaline Robinson - as told by Evelyn Robinson Lyser.
My mother Evelyn Robinson Lyser's genealogy. At her suggestion I recently searched for our McCurdy ancestors of Port Townsend, Washington. I found a biography of Samuel McCurdy Sr. who received a medical degree in Dublin then moved to New Brunswick, then arrived in California with the Gold Rush as we have heard in family narratives. My mother remembers his son Samuel H McCurdy Jr. as her maternal grandfather. I used Google searching on samuel mccurdy "port townsend" and found several articles about, and by, these ancestors.
McCurdy genealogy in Ireland – a 2006 email from Shane McCurdy of Northern Ireland.
hsl-erl-weddingpix Herbert and Evelyn.
Photo, Grandpa Chester Robinson's tractor. Caption on back: "Delevan 1918-1925". And ... incredibly, I found a photo of that model tractor fully restored, possibly the same tractor, in the brochure for a 2003 equipment auction in Colfax: 1916 YUBA BALL TREAD TRACTOR.
Samuel H. and Cora McCurdy, parents of my grandmother Evelyn (Eva) Robinson. Biography by Eleanor Engstrand, my mother's older sister.
Samuel H. and Cora McCurdy, parents of my grandmother Evelyn (Eva) Robinson. Biography by Doug Dempster, a relative through descendents of Eva Robinson's sister Belle.
